Hello world!
My name is Ava Jerao and I am a candidate for your Vice President Internal. As an ambitious business student at the U of W as well as having previous experience volunteering for the UWSA, my aspirations for next year not only reflect my own individual needs as a student, but will hopefully advocate the needs of all of us as a student association.
If elected as VPI, I plan to:
- fully support , promote and improve your student services as well as keep them functioning to best cater to your needs.
hold open budget consultations by making workshops available for you.
create a more publicly visible UWSA budget so that you, as a paying UWSA member, understand exactly where your money is going.
Address to students at election forum on March 12, 2010
The UWSA is like a nice pair of form-fitting, tight pants. Slowly pull them off and hidden underneath is a nice, large budget.
I want this budget to be more accessible and visible for you.
My name is Ava Jerao and I am running for Vice President Internal.
As VPI for next year, I want to help you grab a hold of that budget, understand it and how to work with it.
I am a business student and have worked with the UWSA first-hand through volunteering. Like many of you a few years ago, I was uninformed and unaware as to exactly what the UWSA was and what exactly my UWSA fees contributed to besides free pancakes and spiffy posters.
The budget is not just money, but also supports many different student groups and in a way, interconnects us all as a student association.
I plan to create a more publicly visible UWSA budget available by making myself and the budget more accessible through online resources as well as on campus.
I will consult with different students groups by creating workshops to help them best manage their resources in order to have a productive year. By doing so, sustainability will be strengthened throughout these student groups as they will understand exactly what resources are available to them and how to best utilize them.
As Vice President Internal, I will also be taking the position of Staff Relations Officer. Many of you are unaware that staff is present in the UWSA offices as well as throughout different student services creating continuity throughout the years as executives change every fall. As Staff Relations Officer, I will build strong relationships with those working with the UWSA by working with them in order to best represent and collaborate with them as well as hold them accountable.
I am here to work and advocate for you.
So grab onto that budget, shake it up a little! After all, it’s your money, your UWSA, your needs!
My name is Ava Jerao, and I am running for your Vice President Internal.
